The Beginning Of an end

What I have been awaiting for has finally arrived. 1st of June 2005, this day marks the end of my Fulltime National Service in the SAF. This very day, I would embark on a new journey in life. A journey that is unpredictable, a journey whereby the roads will be rough ahead, a journey of no return. The first step of this upcoming phase, begins when I took my first step out of camp this morning. A step that transforms me from a soldier to a Civilian. Looking back at the building where I had bunked in the last 1 1/2 years, a sudden surge of sadness filled up within me, what will the road ahead be like? At the same time, a sense of happiness which words cannot describe gushed up upon me, I am finally out this fucked up organisation.
From S1 branch, I not only received my NRIC, comes with it are my NS booklet, a NSMan guide book and a Certificate of Service. On the bus on the way home, i was reading the NSMan guide book, there is this phrase which caught my eye that goes, "We wish you a good start to your dual role as a civilian and a soldier." Quite a irony from what I had just said, "A step that transforms me from a soldier to a Civilian." Maybe, as a male Singaporean, we would never escape the term "SOLDIER", no matter who you are, no matter what you do.

To every male Singaporean, The 11B will always go with the NRIC.
There is a song which I particularly like because the lyrics are really meaningful. The Chorus goes:
"For every Singaporean son, will serve his term untill he is done,
For every single breathe he takes, is a bond which cannot break,
We've been through lightning, rain and sun, we're back to where we first began,
Through walls of fire we once run, forget my friend, you know I can't. "
