I'm sick...

Yes..not again..I'm sick..Feeling feverish ever since I knock off on sat night. My cough is back together with my flu. Did not go to work today. Went to the clinic to see doctor just now, crowded. Many people are sick i guessed. The usuals, antibodies, cough syrup, flu tablets, that costs me $41. Expensive.

Sat went to work, BIG by SAFE got warehouse sales again, back by popular demand. Sales isn't that good. Havey Norman held their warehouse sales also. Stiff competition. I only sold 3 sets of 32" LCD TV. Earned 100+bucks. Not worth it, for now that I'm sick.

End of term break. Tmr is back to school for me. Hopefully I will feel better by tmr.

Looked at my Johari window, people find me spontaneous. Lolx..Spontaneous means to act or speak with thinking. A nicer word for impulsive. lolx..Well, maybe its true!

Not yet rusty...

It has been half a year since I last stepped onto the sales floor to do sales. I thought I would be rusty, I thought I would lose all the sales techniques I once mastered. Apparently I did not. It all came out naturally, as if I had memorized the steps by hard every single day without fail. Admittedly, when I started my day at Habourfront BIG, I was kind of "lost for words" but after a while it all came back.

Got a call up from my boss to get my ass to sell TVs once again when I woke up this morning. As some might had seen in the papers, BIG is having their warehouse sales which ends today. I was supposed to watch a play by Hall 15, but weighing the opportunity costs, I decided to skip the play and went to work. It as all worth well. In 8hrs, I sold 5set of 32" LCD TV and 1 set of 42" Plasma TV, earning a total of $200 in a day!!!!! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeew!!! Thats like 25bucks/hr? Where on earth do you get such good money other than battling on the sales floor with the other competing brands' promoter. This is where I gain the utmost satisfaction in this job.

But again, I got to apologize for not being able to make it to the production. My apologies.

Next weekend, there will be another promotion, I shall be down to work again!! Who can resist such good money just by talking my way through to convince people. Too bad I am not smart enough to be a attorney. lolx..

I was so shagged when I returned from work. It has been so long since I stand 8hrs a day. Aching all over. Proceed on with my Bio psych term paper. Completed it at 3am, just while ago. Tedious job! Biology is not my forte, not anywhere near, at all. 1 paper down, 1 more to go. Shall start working on my philo paper tmr. Philosophy, a more tedious job, Im in no way philosophical. Im still trying to figure out what is justice and virtue. Neither had I got an answer to whether a chair is indeed a chair philosophically. Well...I'll probably to more philosophical in my next few posts amidst doing up my term paper. lolx..

To begin, lets consider what I see as a lousy argument put forth by Socrates in "Meno",
If Virtue is knowledge, then it can be taught, but there is no one that can teach Virtue, thus it is not knowledge and therefore it cannot be taught. Virtue then is a gift from the gods.
Socrates oh Socrates...What the hell are you talking about?

Budget Statement 2006

Prime Minister/Finance Minister Lee gave his annual Budget Statement for FY 2006 yesterday. Read it over the net, together with the webcast. Every generous indeed. Giving out its surplus of back to its citizens and in turn taking on a budget deficit of 2.86billion.

I'm most glad that in this budget statement, the people who benefitted most are those from the lower strata of the society. The focus is not only on coporate tax relieves and GST exemptions for foreign investors as of previous years, but more of a social cause, putting emphasis on the low income earners and the aging population.

I see that this is a very high cost election strategy adopted by the government to gather votes. The general elections should be held anytime between now and 1st May 2006, I predict.

Quoting PM Lee,
"We are also investing more in our universities. The Government aims to have 25% of each primary one cohort enrolled in publicly-funded universities by 2010, up from the 21% in 2002. To fund the additional places and invest in new physical infrastructure, MOE will allocate an additional $2 billion to the university sector over the next five years, or an average of $400 million each year. By then, Government investment in our three publicly-funded universities is expected to reach $1.9 billion annually, or 1% of GDP".

2billion shared by 3 Universities in 5 years, which accounts to 133million to each University. Raising the fee by $180/student/year will only increase total revenue by 18million in 5 years. What is 133million compared to 18million? What then is the rational of the fees hike?
If anyone had read the Provost reply on Straittimes wrt the 2 articles on forum yesterday, it takes more effort than just a cut and paste from the circular we received from the President of NUS himself.

Alright, enough of fees hikes, let me see, with this budget 2006, I will be S$900 richer on the 1st May 2006. Lolx.. See! Thats why I say, it caters most for the lower income groups, me being an undergraduate with an annual income of $0.00, living in a crap hole down Jurong, will be receiving most from this package.

I got back my Abnormal Psychology Quiz 1 results last Wed. I got 72 out of 75. Thought it was fantastic initially, not until I scrolled all the way down and saw, Mean: 67.9, Standard Deviation: 5.54, which means I am average, just that Im in the higher percentile thats all. I think there is 1 person who got 75/75. Outstanding! But anyway, I think I did good enough! Hecks! =)

Tommorow evening going for NTU Hall 15 production, Melissa is in the cast. We are down to support her!! Think it will be great! I can also write a play review for my Theatre Studies afterwhich!! Lolx..

Outstanding lecturer!

I drafted out a copy of my Term Paper yesterday, emailed the lecturer, asked a few Questions and also asked for opinions on my draft. Guess what reply I got? "I fear that giving comment would be unfair to the others". In my 1 page long email, he answered none of my Questions and replied with a 1-liner. What I know not is lecturers are so damn busy that they can only reply 1-liners email. I would think it is his sheer laziness that he can't be bothered to read extra readings. Why should he care right?!

It is this very lecturer the type who doesn't teach during lectures, by far, attended all of his lectures, I can conclude, I learnt nothing out of any at all. Alot of friends are already skipping his lectures. What am I waiting for? Equally useless are tutorials, some "gameshow style", my ass!! What sheer waste of time! Now I understand, why no freshmen would take up this module, all those in my class are mostly graduating students, if its not a core module, I believe no one would bothered!

And not forgetting the fees hike, it is this very KIND of lecturer that is going to receive a BIGGER paycheck in exchange with providing us a WORLD CLASS EDUCATION.

Speaking of fees hike, our dear Nana is correct, though I do not know who this Nana is, Mr Danny Quek has gotten his ass moving, cliched us a closed door diagloue session with the senior admin people today at 1730hr. Though only 50 students can attend this session, I do hope their will voice out the students' concerns and let this session be a fruitful one.

Many things have been going on these few days. We have the "Black Shirt Protest" or is it "Black Protest", not very fantastic response, Talks of a online petition, summoning up 45names to call for a Extraordinary Meeting with NUSSU to date they got 50odd names already, Ablilty to call for 1 is one thing, whether or not it is able to pull through is another, the article states that 5% or 200 whichever less number of ordinary members must be present at commencement of the meeting. And since its a EOGM, there will be no vote of no confidence, it is just to sit around and talk about the agenda put forth, pull up a few votes if needed and hopefully things will change for the better.

There is a moron who posted a insensitive and ignorant comment that goes, "So Glad I'm graduating this sem..hahahaha". Apparently it backfired and received many comdemnations. This is a classic example of the fruits of our education, ignorant fools. 3 years of Uni education hasnt taught him much.

I was thinking that this fees hike is a conspriacy between the 3 Universities, announcing the hike together, 1 week before term break, and YES! All 3 Univerisities are having mid-term break next week, such coincidence! Maybe they were thinking of letting us grumble for a few days then send us packing for our term break and after a week, we will forget all about it. lolx..

One thing to clarify, if there is anything I'm unhappy about, it is definitely the University Admin, for failing to inform us through proper channel of the hike, for the failure to consult us in view of this matter and also their failure to be transparent about their fianancial spendings. I've got nothing against NUSSU, nothing against Danny Quek and Co and I do understand that NUSSU has always been sidelined by Uni Admin.

Below are 2 articles written by NUS students to the Straitstimes forum.

Tuition fees hike

"On 14th February 2006, the University announced a fee hike of 3 percent for undergraduate studies with effect from academic year 2006/2007."

The "world-class" University has done it again. Informing students of tuition fees hike through an email circular! How sincere! It goes to show alot about the Univeristy Adminstration, impressing upon the student body that THEY DON'T GIVE A DAMN TO WHAT WE THINK, and we do it their way.

Reasons for the fees hike are none other than to cover rising costs. Cover costs of what? Show us what are we exactly paying for? Aren't the fee hike a year back enough to cover costs? Had inflation rate shot up in a period of 2 years that it needs review in such short period? Or is it due to the myopia of the leadership lacking the ability to foresee increasing cost 2years back. World Class University.

Had Coporatisation of the University increased its competition on the market to employed better lecturers, thus increasing cost, which means to say, increase staff's salary? If so, then I seriously doubt what kind of lecturer's are they employing out there, lecturers who preach and not teach, tutors who aint so sure themselves, well this does not apply to all, there are still good ones out there, and as far as im concern, all the good lecturers have gone on to NTU, whats left in NUS are the remnants. World Class Univeristy.

Building a outstandingly grand University Cultural Centre to promote the arts, while its students spent hours trying to bid for modules and register for tutorial to no avail, it took the adminstration close to 24hrs to resolve this system bottleneck problem while students waited invain, generating stress uncalled for totally. Yes! We should pay the IT consultants more, so that they will sit around not knowing what went wrong when CORS screws up! World Class University.

Following that email circular sent out by NUS admin, came another email from Danny Quek, President NUSSU. NUSSU has done their best in objecting the fees hikes. Well, done their best, apparently not. School Admin informed NUSSU of the fees hike on the 10th Feb, finalise the hike on the 14th feb. 4days, nothing was done, student bodies did not even know there is a fee hike on the talk. What is the point of gathering views now that its finalised, why not do it before. Outstanding. NUSSU, from a world class university.

NUSSU set up a forum on IVLE to collect views and opinions about this fees hike. Tonnes of post for the past 24hrs. Condeming views of NUSSU and the School Admin. To which I care not. What I am concern is the inactivity of the Union. The forum being set up by the union, sees its 1st post by their President only after more than 24hrs, to reiterate the point that NUSSU is against the idea of the fees hike. Danny, its time to be a leader as in a leader per se, not a leader on transcripts and testimonials only.

Let's turn our eyes on the local media, and see how they deceive ignorant Singaporeans into believing that students are supportive of this fee hikes.

3 more days to the budget report 2006. We shall see in conjuction to this what other hikes and goodies in return are there pre-installed for us Singaporeans. Maybe something like this would goes, "in view of the recent increment in tuition fees, blar blar blar, the government had forked out how many millions of dollars to help who and who....blar blar blar..." Seems like an excellent election tactics ya?! And parents will go, the government is helping my son get through Uni education, hmmm not bad...Crapz....

Well, to conclude, I can go on writing pages and pages on this topic, probably I can draft out my thesis by doing so, but so? All I can do is blabber on and on but WHO CARES?! The authorities will pretend they had never seen what its people say or write, unless it is of a defamating nature to them then they will sue till you are bankrupt, so that you do not meet the pre-requit to run for elections against them. Smart move.

What ever it is, life just goes on, constituted under the "Pay And Pay" act, we will fulfill our role as model citizens and continue paying our lives off....Such cynism.

Quote of the day: "NUS remains committed to ensuring that no deserving student is denied a tertiary education because of financial difficulty".
Sorry, I do mean JOKE OF THE DAY.

PS: Happy 22nd Birthday Huiyin! Enjoy your day!
Hope everyone had enjoyed your Valentines Day!

Sleepy...

Slept only 2 hrs last night. Went to school this morning for make up lecture and tutorial. I wonder where do people get the impression that I sleep alot, when I say people I actually to JOEL only. lolx. Well, have been trying to catch up with all the readings this entire week, slept less than 20 hrs for the past 5 days. Is that alot?!

Last night when I was at Mac doing my readings, I happen to overhear a conversation from the next table. In mandarin, translated:
A: Wah..so tired...really very tired..cannot make it...The number of hours I slept this entire week can be counted using one hand....
Throughout the course of their conversation, this guy keeps exclaiming that he is very tired. It was 3+ in the morning. They were sitting around talking cock!
I was thinking, this guy must be bullshitting his friends. How to sleep less than 5hr in a week, and still has all the energy to talk cock at 3 in the morning. Amazingly retarded!

Today is the release of the O'levels results. I wish everyone who are getting their results today the best of luck! I'm going down my school for parade later. Can check out how they fare this year.

Saw a hilarious ad on one of the papers just now. Front page add. I thought it was hilarious. From PSB academy, it goes something like, "After Olevels, if you do not wish to go to JC, Poly or ITE, Come to PSB academy". I think their market research is a flopped, targeting at a wrong group of people. What the point of taking Olevels if I do not wish to go to either of the 3, but rather visit some private insitution and do a private dip? It would be better if it goes, "After Olevels, if you do not wish to go to JC, Poly or ITE, JOIN THE ARMY!" lolx..SAF would love me! hahax.

Apparently I am still aching all over from the run 2 days ago. I'm old. A short little run is enough to kill this set of old bones.

Get Well Soon, Mum!

Mum has been admitted into TTS hospital on Fri. Hospitalized since. She has been running a fever since Lunar New yr's eve. Seen quite a few GP but did not recover. her temperature was high on 38 initially, but currently lingers around 37.5deg. The last docter she consulted wrote a referral letter for her to be admitted into TTS. Went to visit her just now, reached there at 1am. I do not even know her ward and bed number. Check with the reception and went up. Vistors after 9pm got to sign in before going up.

She was sleeping when I got there, woke her up and spoke to her abit and left her to rest. Apparently, they took quite a few blood samples from my Mum for the past 4 days. Everything turns out negative so far. The doctors do not even know what is wrong. Ridiculous. So they diagnosed that she is down with a Viral infection which cause the fever and that it might linger for 2weeks. Prescribed antibodies only today. X-rays of her lungs shows no abnormalities. Docter advised her to stay for another 2days for observation.

Spoke to the nurse on duty before I left, about my Mum's condition. Malaria blood test results will be out only tmr, Viral infection report will be out only after tmr. The viral infection is by far still a suspected case. The rest of the test they did turns out normal. I think its ridiculous. A world class medical facility with world class medical care, churns out no diagnostic after 4 days of hospitalization. Are the governmental hospitals not earning enough to cover operational costs? Such that they need to keep patients longer than neccessary to earn more? I'm not impressed. I hope she will get well soon.

I think this is probably the falling sick season, isn't spring supposed to be a season of joy and blossom? "I see dead people...no, i mean Sick people."..lolx.. Kaijun down with fever, Lena down with fever also, Anqi down with flu, Sabrina just recovered from flu, I just recovered from my cough. Outstanding, everyone around is sick. GET WELL SOON everyone! Rest well!!

Speaking of fever, it brings me to think of the fever cheer. Lolx. Its goes,

"I've got a fever, I'm hot, I can't be stop!
I've got a fever, I'm hot, I can't be stop!
I gotta front oooh! back yaaaa! can't be stop!
I've got a fever....pssssssshhhh....."

Kinda lame though. Well, nevermind..lolx..
After visiting my mum, shawn and me drove down to geylang for supper. Had Dou Jiang and You Tiao. Great. Came home afterwhich.

Before that, we went to Yishun(shawn's home after AMK) and Ang Mo Kio(shawn, juewei, romano and my old flat), where we previously stayed, to rekindle childhood memories. Saw my primary school, my previous sec sch, my old home which is now occupied by god knows who, shawn's old flat which is just beside mine also occupied and also Juewei's old flat.

The very void deck where 3 of us played soccer when we were little kids, the market, the CC, the shophouses, even the Econ minimart auntie is still the same, the very one some 15years ago. Loitered around Mayflower Park, went on to Bishan Park, remembered the days when I fell into the pond together with the bicycle.

Went up Thomson Plaza, with YAOHAN no more. Gave the prata shop a missed, apparently they have the most crispy prata in town (reco by TNP), tried it before, not that fantastic, I think Cheese prata shop(fongseng), outside eusoff hall serves better prata. lolx..

Going to school later to do subject pool for Marketing, will be doing readings in school thereafter. Got to go school on Fri too! Theatre's make up lecture and tutorial for CNY. Crap...No free day this week. But well I better catch up n my readings. 2 papers due for submission soon. Started on none. Sounds great huh...

I'm sleepy, I'm going to bed, I can't be stop. Later..

Just done with my Philo readings for tmr philo tutorial. Long piece of blabbering nonsensical conversation between Meno and Socrates about Virtue.

Off to bed for now..Laterz..

Exercising is the word.

Alright, after incidence of protest and unwanted grumblings from that "many few" on my tag board, I've decided to speak nothing on sleep in this entry. I just woke up nonetheless. Lolx..

Done with my Abn psyc Quiz on Monday, relatively easy quiz i supposed. That means I will be scoring relatively average on the bell curve also. Suck! Lolx! Caught up with my theatre's readings last night. All my readings are piling up already. Esp for Bio psyc, I've not touched the brand new textbook yet. Soon I will, as I would suppose.

And as the title of this entry suggests, Yes! I am gonna move my ass and start exercising on a regular basis. I am growing fat like an balloon and my IPPT still needs to be cleared. And when the SAF is giving out $$$$, how can I miss it!! lolx.. Actions speaks louder than words. I am going jogging at the stadium with Shawn now! Yes I mean now!!! Immediately!

Later! lolx..

Quiz Quiz

I was studying in school's Central Library yesterday for my Abnormal Psyc quiz coming up on mon. The damn textbook is longwinded and crappy. The lecture notes we copied were brief and useles. The study guide which our lecturer posted up for the quiz is redundant. Basically says we have to study the textbook cover to cover. 4 chapters. Crazy!

Think I'm kinda slow in reading. Only covered less than 2 chapters yesterday afternoon. Guess my weekends are gone just like that. All thanks to the lecturer who sets a quiz right after CNY. lolx.

The past 2 nights, I've been playing "instr" for Shawn. He just passed his TP on Wed, being all excited about driving but kinda scared, he got me to sit beside him while he drive all over. Last night we went all the way to town and and boat quay area, where he experienced real traffic condition. hahax...

Going to unit for parade now. Laterz.

CNY Day 2 and 3..

Day 2, Monday:
Woke up at 11+ in the morning. Relatives started to stream in at around noon. Played Blackjack with my cousins for a while, lost 2 bucks. lolx...Went over to dear's place for dinner. Afterwhich left for River Angbao, met up with Jiayu and co. Its a gathering with my JC classmates to celebrate Jiayu's birthday. Went to this nightclub cum KTV on Jiayu's recommendation..Lolx..Yes..Those kind of shady nightclubs which Jiayu frequent.lolx..Sung for 2hrs in the KTV room.

Reached home at around 12+ past midnight. Met Mr Wee and Mr Fax, drove to a pub in Selegie. Had a few drinks and played Blackjack till 3+. Won 7bucks this time. hahax..Drove to River Valley to have supper at this prata shop which was crowded. Service was lousy. The uncle said we are wasting his time, cuz he don't have plain prata because its CNY, don't have tissue prata. We placed our order and we left the place. Screw him man! hahax. Drove back to a Shell Station near home and ate cup noodles there, at least we are happier and we aint wasting noone's time. Finally reached home at 5+ in the morning. Sleep....

Day 3, Tuesday:
After sleeping at near 6 in the morning, I woke up at 2+ in the afternoon. Rushed over to Shawn's place. Played mahjong. Won 8bucks! Sent dear home. Met up with Shawn and RenCai again to chill. Reach home at 10+pm. So damn shagged. Slpt at 11+pm. Earliest time I slpt in the last 1 month I think. The Holidays just flew by like this. Fast, in a wink of an eye its over.

Day 4, Wednesday, Today:
Abn Tut at 10am. Supposed to wake up at 0830am, but guess what, due to the early sleep the previous night, I woke up at 5 in the morning. Crap!! Couldnt sleep. Went online to register for my Marketing Subject Pool. SMSed a few folks..lolx..Lazed around on the bed till time to go to school. Sickening..Can't I just sleep a little longer??!! Had lunch in school with Anqi after our Theatre's practical. Left for home thereafter and here I am rotting away in front of my PC. Today, Shawn had his driving test, 2nd attempt. He passed! Congraz!!!

Day 5, Thursday, Tommorow:
Supposed to have no classes on thurs. Purposely scheduled a subject pool to be tmr and also next thurs. So that I will be "forced" to go to school and study. Been too lazy of late. Tmr I'm gonna stay in the library to study for my Abn Psyc Lect Quiz coming up. Sickening...lolx...
